Suryakumar Yadav’s return to Test cricket is uncertain after he injured his hand during the Buchi Babu Invitational Tournament on Friday.

This injury could impact his participation in the upcoming Duleep Trophy and his aim to rejoin the Indian Test team after his debut in February 2023.

Yadav, recently appointed as the Indian T20I captain, had planned to compete in the Duleep Trophy next month.

However, he suffered a finger injury while fielding for Mumbai Cricket Association in a match against TNCA XI in Coimbatore.

The injury occurred while attempting a catch, leading to his immediate removal from the field.

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has not yet provided details on the injury's severity or its effect on Yadav’s Duleep Trophy participation, which is set to start in five days. The tournament is crucial for selecting the squad for the home Test series against Bangladesh, starting September 19.

In the same match, Mumbai faced a significant defeat against TNCA XI. Yadav scored 30 runs in the first innings but did not bat in the second.

Shreyas Iyer, also seeking a Test return, scored 2 and 22, while captain Sarfaraz Khan managed 6 runs and was out for a duck in the second innings.
